Read what Steve has to say…
"At a very young age I was so attracted to the sound of the saxophone on recordings that my father, who was then playing trumpet, taught me the sax. I didn't have to be forced to practice and luckily there was music always being played around the house. I grew up to the sounds of the best jazz and other music at the time, in a very creative environment at home; it just became part of my life. The feeling of the blues - good and bad, happy and sad - in music can become part of you from the beginning. Before you really know the "techniques" of playing it on an instrument you hear it first… I always listened to every new player. Some of them were known to the people more than others but all-together creating a whole world of sounds I dug and got inspired by. There is a strong lineage in this music - way more than one persons lifetime, and that is something to learn and get tips and directions from. Then once you've been to the mountain top its obvious that there are a lot more to come when you stay into it. So it's an every day thing…there are big huge bright moments and then lulls where you compose or cool it for a while - this music is a never-ending thing.

I feel it's a blessing to lead a life that grows creativity and to be able to communicate it to long time listeners as well as new ones. I let the power of music take me to new places and do feel that it is a spirit within itself that we are a part of. I have seen music alone transform things, situations and people like magic. With all the draggy things that come with this life and get more and more complicated with the karma and actions of us all, I really believe that making music and dealing with that positive spirit is the best thing you can do!"
